| As of now, we have decided to focus our attention to counter the challenges faced by the people in the most crucial social sectors like education, healthcare and culture. Their prime importance either in the framing the mind-set of an individual or in formatting a decent living need not be emphasized. In these days, getting a decent education or obtaining a minimum healthcare facility has become too expensive, even to the middle class families. Moreover, any contribution in education and healthcare, in particular, is worth million dollars as they affect life directly and their impact on individual as well as on society is immense. |

Primarily, though our main thrust is to institute long-standing projects, having decisive social bearing, we are constrained to spare some breathing space of time for mobilizing adequate fiscal resources; as such, massive projects need heavy financial involvement. In the meanwhile, to keep up the momentum on the right track, we have decided to focus our attention to counter the challenges faced by the people in the most crucial social sectors like education, healthcare and culture. Their prime importance either in the making of an individual or in formatting a decent living need not be stressed again. Getting a decent education or obtaining a minimum healthcare facility has become too expensive, even to the middle class families. Moreover, any contribution in education and healthcare, in particular, is worth million dollars as they affect life directly and the impact on individual as well as on society is immense, immediate and the end result could be perceived and evaluated at every stage of execution. Added to this, the monetary participation in these temporary assignments is so elastic that it could be stretched to our manageable needs
Education: It is an unfortunate fact that the field of education has become a vast goldmine for the unscrupulous managements to mint money and skin the public to their bones. The implementation and adoption of the self-financing schemes in the corridors of University Education have corroded the base of subsidized education. The impractical policies of both the Central and the State Governments have further deepened the crisis of the educational sector, making it impossible for the ordinary middle class populace to pursue their studies. As a result, even a simple High School education has become unaffordable to many of the meritorious poor. Apart from the economic blockades, the ‘vote bank’ politics, the ad-hoc policy of ‘reservation’ and the caste-based provisions of fee concessions, have multiplied the ever prevailing confusion of the merited students.
Realising the magnanimity of the dilemma of the student community, we, at Shree Guru Narasimha Mithra Mandali ®, have worked out an innovative scholarship program of reaching out to the economically weak, but, deserving students so as to enable them to continue their education - even professional education. In this novel scheme, we shoulder the full responsibility of the school/college educational expenses of the students and pay the entire school/college/hostel fees directly to the concerned school/college/hostel authorities by demand draft. It is our laid-down policy that we neither reimburse the fees already paid nor do we disburse any cash to any individual student. Every transaction is carried out through Demand Draft/Cheque, wherever they are accepted – hence, the dealings are open and transparent. The scholarship is guaranteed to them for the whole period of the chosen course, provided, the student maintains high level of performance. Since the aid covers the entire educational career of a student, we feel, the student is able to concentrate more on studies than worrying about the source of finance for coming academic seasons.
During the year of initiation in 2006-07, we started with just one engineering student with an assistance of Rs 22,900.00. The second year saw four more with disbursement of Rs 76,550.00. In the third year, we added another four to the list, with the total scholarship amount of Rs 1,68,525 = 00. In the fourth year, we have twenty one students availing benefits, jacking up the year’s assistance amount to Rs. 4,05,782=00. In this fifth year, (2010-11) we have 27 students in our rolls and the scholarship amount skyrocketed to Rs. 5,22,835=00. So far, as many as 31 students have been benefitted from this scheme with scholarship amount whopping up to Rs. 12,05,245/-. We are proud to share the fact that three of our students have graduated in engineering discipline and got employment with the prestigious IT establishments at Bangalore in June 2010. The success of the scheme is absolutely marvelous as we see more and more sponsors have come forward to fund the entire educational expenses of few students!! Yeah, without your continuous encouragement, some of these girls and boys would not have seen the portals of higher education. With your blessings, Sir, some families have been able to see the light of the day in their dead-dark life.
Health: Healthcare is a prominent factor in human life. With ‘specialization’ haunting the health field and the super specialty hospitals dotting the landscape, the medical bills too skyrocketed to unbearable heights, making the life of the poor still miserable. In this regard, in order to relieve their distress a bit, we have initiated a pilot program of extending super specialty hospital treatment to the doors of the poor people by arranging treatment in reputed hospitals for them and settling their hospital bills. This is being made possible by the benediction of the managements of Basappa Memorial hospital, Adhitya Hospital and Usha Kiran Eye Hospital of Mysore City. Here, a team of doctors lead by Dr. P. Pundalika Herle, waive off their consulting / operation fees and the hospital management is magnanimous enough to offer our patients some solid concessions in hospital charges. Remaining balance is being cleared by us. Apart from footing the hospital bills, we have been organizing ‘Free Medical Checkup Camps’ regularly in and around Mysore. In fact, our medical camps are unique in its character and contents. We not only arrange free-check up camps regularly for the poor but also provide consistent ‘after-camp’ medical treatments to the economically weak patients.
In healthcare sector too, we have endeavored to bestow dignity to the life of unfortunate patients - we have initiated a laudable scheme of providing clinical and medicinal expenses of economically challenged, acutely suffering patients, so that, their journey of life be dignified, peaceful and tension-free. Indeed, the value of “LIFE” is not to be either interpreted or evaluated in terms of “profit and loss account”. As far as possible, an environment has to be created wherein everyone around us lives in dignity. Shri. Ramavenkatesh Holla of Mysore, a distraught kidney patient, living on dialysis twice a week, is being provided treatment for dialysis in Basappa Memorial Hospital - approximately Rs. 16000=00 a month. Added to this, his daughter’s education is also being taken care of.
Dr. C Shankara Somayaji, a renowned gynecologist of Mamatha Ganga Maternity & Infertility Research Centre, K R Nagar, Mysore district, has been a source of inspiration for us in running medical camps in the vicinity of KR Nagar. Our Mithra Mandali, with the active participation of his Research Centre, has been helping to arrange regular free check up camps, exclusively for women, for the benefit of infertile couples, pregnant women and women-related health problems in villages in & around K R Nagar. In these camps, facilities like scanning, pathological tests and counseling are provided free of cost. Like all other medical camps, here too, after-camp-treatment service is meticulously offered and every case is taken to its logical end. Since these camps are the part of the on-going research process, we have made it a point to utilize this opportunity to turn them into a sustained campaign for educating rural women folk about the prevention and treatment of women-related diseases and problems.
Culture: You know very well, ‘Culture’ is the interior décor of an individual in particular and of society in general. With ‘globalization’ on the fast moving track, there has been a crisis of cultural identity. Market economy has erased national boundaries, putting heavy strain on cultural ethos and innate character of every nation. Hence, it has become imperative for every one of us to rain the roots o our cultural inheritance - art, values and literature - so that, our children should not be lost in the dry desert of the West. They should be repeatedly reminded about our cultural heredity by organizing cultural feats and fairs. In reality, Karnataka is the archeological museum of art & culture. We, at our Mithra Mandali, have been providing platform for the artists for performing cultural shows in Mysore. In this connection, we had patronized two Yakshagana performances by Children Troupe from Kota, organized Astavadhana by Shatavadani Dr. Ganesh and his team and also arranged a Thalamaddale by Yakshapriya Troupe of Saligrama, Udupi District & Hindustani music concert by
Dr. M.S.Bhaskar, music concert (classical) by Mrs Revathi Sharma, a talented singer from Mysore with a melodious voice, music concert by Dr M S Natashekar & exhibition of paintings by
Mrs Jaya Herle at Vishwa Koota Sammelana at Banagalore.
In 2010, we continued our support to cultural extravaganza by arranging “Yugala Yakshagana” by renowned yakshagana artists Mr Mantapa Prabhakara Upadhya & Mr Chapparamane Sridhara Hegde. On the same stage before yugala Yakshagan young talented artist from Shimoga Miss Bhargavi took the audience to the spiritual world by her devotional songs for an hour. The Astavadhana Programme rendered by Shatavadhani Dr R Ganesh is yet another programme we initiated to boost our cultural environment.
